Overall summary
This report summarises the results of a national survey of 1,294 year 4 children (aged 8 to 9 years) in 89 schools from across the UK. Children who brought a packed lunch to school had the contents of food, provided and eaten, weighed and analysed for both food and nutrient provision. This survey provides the baseline for a cluster randomised controlled trial, which aims to test an intervention to improve the quality of packed lunches through the delivery of a ‘Smart’ lunchbox package. The results of the trial will be presented in a separate report.
