Measuring the bioavailability of human dietary intake of PAH, phthalates and aromatic hydrocarbons

The aim of this project was to determine the dietary uptake of specific PAHs, phthalates and mono-aromatic hydrocarbons by adult male volunteers. A massbalance approach in which dietary intake was compared with faecal and urinary excretion of both the parent compounds and their metabolites was used to assess the proportion of dietary intake that was absorbed.
