This project successfuly standardised and optimised a pCR method for the detection of NV and HAV in shellfish. The project also developed a real-time, TaqMan-based assay that shows potential in replacing the conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods. This project may contribute to better controls fir viruses and thus to fewer outbreaks of disease with consequent benefits to public health.
