The only record of Trichinella spp. in wildlife in Great Britain is a single record from 1957. No other wildlife cases, or indigenously acquired human cases have been reported in the literature.
This survey proposed to sample muscles from approximately 700 wild foxes for Trichinella spp. During this survey 700 foxes were analysed for Trichinella. All muscle samples were negative for Trichinella. If the 1635 fox digests from earlier surveys are included (all were negative – giving a total sample size of 2335 foxes) the upper 95%ile confidence limit for national prevalence of Trichinella is less than 0.0013.
