Project Code: N09009

Henry, J
The aim of this pilot study was to develop, deliver and monitor a programme aimed at the prevention of obesity in primary school children.
Ar baseline, 8% of the children were overweight and 4% were obese. At endpoint these figures were 8% and 3% respectively Interestingly, these rates for overweight and obese were slightly below national reports. No significant changes in overweight and obesity were noted as a result of this intervention. This may be due to the short time-span of the intervention and the low numbers involved.
Significant improvements in children’s knowledge were seen between baseline and post-intervention. These changes were highly significant in the nutrition ("Eat Smart" and combined ("Eat Smart, Play Smart") group.
