The aim of this project was to determine the migration of potential contaminants from non-stick coated and metal coated kitchenware products. For the purposes of this study kitchenware products were defined as cookware articles intended for stove and/or stove top use, i.e. pans, cake tins, etc. Observations in retail outlets established that these products are metallic (stainless steel or tin coated) or they have a non-stick coating applied to a metallic substrate. Two different types of kitchenware product have been investigated; non-stick coated and metalware, and the two are reported separately in Parts I and II of this report.
