Review of extraction methods for additives from complex food matrices

There are over 300 additives approved for use in the EU and the first stage of this project was to narrow down the number of additives for consideration in detail. The 2005 Review of the FSA’s A01 and A02 programmes noted in the Action Plan that consultation should be carried out with ‘Industry, Public Analysts and laboratories to assess the current state of play on methods of analysis of additives’. Therefore consultation was a key aspect of this project. A questionnaire was sent out to
stakeholders to gain data on where there were methods already in use, and which analytes or analyte / matrix combinations were known sources of problems.
