04/08/2010
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT
Overall Aim
To carry out an audit of health claims currently on products available in retail outlets in the UK, and categorise them.
Objectives
1. To undertake the first audit of health claims in the UK by surveying the range of health claims made on food and food supplement labels on the market in UK supermarkets, independent grocers, pharmacies and health food shops.
2. To analyse each health claim by the type of product on which it appears, the active ingredient against which the claim is made, and the health effect which is claimed; and to enable health claims to be categorised by any combination of these three variables.
3. To collect nutrition composition data on food products (not including food supplements) carrying health claims.
