This report contains a summary of the results obtained from year three (2009) of a three year project to monitor levels of four major process contaminants in a range of UK retail foodstuffs. Samples were supplied to Premier Analytical Services by an independent contractor in accordance with a sampling and analysis plan provided by the UK Food Standards Agency and in accordance with Commission Recommendation 2007/331/EC. A total of 458 analyses were carried out on 308 retail products representing 10 food groups specified in the Commission Recommendation (2007/331/EC). Where required, foods were cooked according to the manufacturers’ guidelines prior to testing for combinations of acrylamide, furan, 3-MCPD and ethyl carbamate as appropriate.
