Survey of Metals and Other Elements in Weaning Foods and Formula for Infants
Project Code: C02072
31/07/2006
Central Science Laboratory
Baxter, M
A survey of 201 weaning foods and formula for infants product samples were analysed for aluminium, antimony, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, iodine, iron, lead, manganese, mercury, nickel, selenium, tin and zinc.
The concentration of elements in the various commodities were in line with previously reported data, e.g. elevated levels of arsenic were associated with products containing rice whilst mercury and arsenic concentrations were elevated in products containing fish. A meat product (CSL code S05-011-800) had a remarkably high tin value compared to all other tin data within this survey, this result was confirmed in a duplicate analysis.
