Folate plays a key role in disease prevention. There is substantial evidence demonstrating that a low folate status can increase the risk of a neural tube defect pregnancy. It has also been suggested that folate may play a role in lowering the risk of CVD, some cancers (notably colorectal), and dementia.
This study will investigate whether increasing the consumption of natural food folate from a mixed diet is as effective as supplemental folic acid in raising folate status, reducing biomarkers of CVD risk and improving vascular function.
