Development of Diagnostic Immunoassays for Biomarkers of Pesticide Exposure
Project Code: T10009
23/10/2009
ADAS, Wolverhampton
Maddison, B
Groups of pesticides that act toxicologically by the same mechanism might, it is thought, produce either an additive or unexpected effect. Organophosphates and N-methyl carbamates can be found in UK foods and both work by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. If an effect of consuming a background level of these pesticides is to be studied, then some information on the levels of pesticide exposure in the general population should be known. To this end, high throughput screening assays able to measure exposure to these compounds are required.
